Why Do Planners and Politicians Hate the Handicapped?

September 12, 2012

Sure they pay lip service to the handicapped. They require handicapped parking near the front door. That makes it easier for the handicapped to get from the car to the establishment.

But what about getting out of the car? What about walking to the front door? What about navigating inside the establishment?

Wouldn’t many handicapped people be better served if they didn’t have to leave their car?

It just so happens we have such a solution, but many city planners and politicians are against it:

The drive through window!

Drive through windows relieve many handicapped of the difficult task of getting out of their car, into their wheel chair and navigating the wheel chair inside of the bank, restaurant or store.

Why do planners hate this ideal way to serve many handicapped?
